Thumb-Jasper

An old school friend got in touch and asked me to do a painting of her pet dog Jasper.  After going through all the lovely cute photos she send me of Japser, I picked up certain features and character from each painting and put together a up close portrait of him.

He was a real joy to paint, I opted for the less cartoony, bold look and gone for smoother blending and thinner outlines. I’m rather pleased with the result, think I will try to paint more dogs from now on because they are such fun animals and you can add lots of personality in them. :)

“ZZZ…”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It’s been a while since I’ve updated the blog, but I’m really happy to finally upload the latest painting! This is a slightly different painting, more like an illustration of a story I think. Gran is having her nap after falling asleep while reading her daily newspaper. Her cat caught the attention of her grandson and an observation between the two began….

I was going through one of my old sketches few weeks ago when I found a doodle I made of a cat with headphones on. I’ve decided to add to it and turn it into a painting, and this is the end result!  Originally I wanted to have a MP3 player in the middle of the two animals, but I decided a good old fashion boombox is the way to go, I just love the old retro designs!

Thumb-XmasPainting

Hello everybody!

I hope you all had a lovely Xmas and New Year. I’ve been a bit quiet over the holiday, because I was up in the lovely North East of UK, catching up with friends and family and in general staying away from the internet…. :D

Thumb-BuildingMyNest

A few years ago when I was still a kid, my family traveled to Derby to visit our relatives. It was a really long motorway journey and as a child I would look out the window and pay attention to everything I saw to keep myself entertained. I remember clearly as we drove pass one of the many hills, I saw a crow “hopped” onto a sheep that was minding its own business. The crow startled the sheep and it still had a good bunch of grass in it’s mouth.

Thumb-No

Here is the painting I done as a doodle a while ago. It had some positive feedback as a doodle so I decided to paint it! I think the inspiration came from observing parents interacting with their children, I have a little brother myself and it often amuses me when my mum can read his mind and give out the “NO!” before he does anything (usually grab something he shouldn’t or opening the door).

Here is a painting which I done a doodle for a while ago. I’ve really wanted to paint it since the doodle was drawn. It’s similar to the “It’s a game of Cat & Mouse” painting which is inspired by one of my favourite artist Rennie Mackintosh. This painting took a long time to do because of it’s delicate details and lots of lines going across the whole canvas…..

Here is a set of paintings that’s similar to the one I done years ago as a present for my lovely fiance, and it’s been the most “crazy” one I’ve ever done so far (there is always time to get even more crazy!). I had a lot of positive feedback from it so I decided to paint another similar set. The paintings includes everything that we both love – cat, monkey, birds, robots and some quirky skeleton characters…

Thumb-RabbitsUnderMushroom

It’s raining and a sad little bunny got a caring friend who wanted to make sure it’s staying dry…. This painting have a slightly different colour palate compare to my other paintings. I think the light brown and bright red mushroom gave it a really unique atmosphere. I painted it to be like an illustration from a children’s book, you can make up all sorts of stories for it and I hope each viewers will have a personal unique story for this piece : )

Thumb-PenguinInLove

A self portrait of Mr & Mrs Penguin paintings. This is a continued theme from my previous painting “Penguin’s Valentine”. I really like them from that painting and I decided to paint them larger so I can include more details like their furry bodies and little feather wings. There’s something about their expression which you can just tell they are made for each other! ; )   I can imagine many more cute stories  between them two love birds,  this is the beginning of the series for the penguin fans out there! : )

Thumb-Cat&Mouse

A kitty and a mousey having a rest near the stairs, maybe they will continue the chase later ? : ) This is a rather different style of painting compare to my other recent work, less vibrant colours and more sleek. It is inspired by one of my favourite artist,  Charles Rennie Mackintosh.  I’ve always liked his architectural work and the clean, aesthetic designs which made his art so popular and distinctive. It was really nice to paint something different, I’m hoping I get to paint more in this style in the near future!

Recently I’ve been loving the rare sunshine we get in UK and been growing few vegetables on the balcony. I really enjoy my mini gardening time and am looking forward to “harvest” my own vegetables! (herbs mostly!) It gave me the idea for this painting… Mr.Rabbit watering his garden of sun flowers and carrots, and a little blue bird came by to say hi… I think  if I’m a rabbit, I will be an expert in growing carrots….

Thumb-Crocomodile

This coromodile is inspired by a TV advert, where a crocodile is on a leash but with a massive smile on his face. I really loved that cheeky expression and decided to paint one of my own!  I found the scales and details/tones particularly hard to paint, it took a long time but the final look is well worth it!
